The OES Franklin County Search and
Rescue (SAR) team has put together a free 45 minute SAR educational
program geared toward school age children, with the purpose
of educating and protecting as many children as possible from
the dangers of being lost.
We created this program because we believe the most
successful SAR mission is the one that never has to take
place.
Our program is titled “How to Get
Found Safe and Sound” and offers children empowering alternatives to
becoming helpless when lost.
The program consists of a 12 minute children’s film (created
by the Association of National Park Rangers) as well as practical
instruction and demonstration.
The program
teaches lost prevention as well as what children should do if lost,
including how to get found faster, how to stay safe
when lost, and how to recognize the difference between
searchers and strangers.
We believe this program may indeed save a lost child’s
life.
If you are interested in having this program
presented, please contact Kathy Mershon of the Franklin County
Search and Rescue Team at 209-0555 or Fred Mullen of the Franklin
County Office of Emergency Services (OES) at 209-0818 at your
convenience.
